“We honor the struggles of our people”, is the general title of the exhibition, which opens tomorrow Tuesday November 5th at 7pm at Town hall and the events that will take place in the next period and for which a Press Conference was given today, by the Mayor of Patreon, Costa Peletidis and the Deputy Mayor of Culture, Angel Apostoli.
Opening the interview, Mayoremphasized the following: “The Municipality of Patreon and the Deputy Mayor of Culture are organizing an exhibition and a series of events, to once again honor the struggles of our people. The very poster of the exhibition that opens tomorrow at the City Hall, with the comprehensive title “We honor the struggles of our people”, it gives the essence of the issue raised by the events we organize. The tall figure created by Vaso Katraki in her engraving, standing with arms raised in front of the sun and the inscription “They pulled high – very high – Hard to lower now”, it captures in the best way the struggles of our people, their past and their future.
The heroism of popular struggles, self-denial and sacrifice for the right, is the “red thread” that connects all the great moments of our country’s history.
That is why and through the exhibition material we present, we dare to unite two leading historical moments. On the one hand, the liberation from the Nazi occupation troops, which had proven the brutal nature of Nazism – fascism, with the Refugee Block, the executions of young people, etc. and on the other hand the uprising of the Polytechnic University in 1973.
In these key moments of our history, Patra and its movement played a serious role and this is one of the reasons why we have the responsibility to highlight them, so that the new generations can learn the truth, step firmly into their past in order to win their future.
We aspire from the exhibition and our events this year, which will last a total of almost two months, to pass thousands of parents, hundreds of schools. This November can be a month of knowledge, study, a month of collective discussion and drawing conclusions.
We remember and learn so that we can become active agents in shaping our future. This is what we hope for the new generation of our city, this is the driving force behind everything we do.”
Then the Deputy Mayor of Culture said the following: “For the exhibition of digital imprinting, entitled “Honoring the struggles of our people”, many people have worked with passion and for a long time, so that we can be inaugurated tomorrow. Together with the Refuge, which is visited on a daily basis by students, but also by adults, it gives us a lot of joy, but also inspiration, to continue the struggle together with the people of our city.
With the exhibition, a month of inspiration begins for young people and not only the people of Patras, since the struggles of our people, who wrote with their blood, golden pages of history, will be shown. We are talking about the liberation of the city from the Nazi occupation troops, about the Refugee Bloc and the uprising of the Polytechnic University in 1973.
On November 14, a film related to the Polytechnic uprising will be shown, on November 15 a concert will be organized in the University Conference Room, with music and songs by Mikis Theodorakis, on November 16, an event with the Municipal Dance Band and at the beginning of December, it will take place, in collaboration with the Pan-Asian Association, an event for the Refugee Block.
All these events are important, because they inspire us, they show us the way for today”.
The interview was attended by Athens Kallimani – Georgitsopouloumunicipal councilor and member of the Culture Committee of the Municipality of Patreon and o Andrew Massalso a member of the Culture Committee of the Municipality, who also mentioned the importance of the exhibition since it “teaches us that a people who resist wins”.
The exhibition will last until Thursday, December 14 and the opening hours are: Weekdays 10 am. – 4 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

**Interview with Costa Peletidis, Mayor of Patras**
**Interviewer:** Thank you for joining us today, Mayor Peletidis. Tomorrow, you’re inaugurating an exhibition titled “We Honor the Struggles of Our People.” Can you explain the importance of this exhibition and the events surrounding it?
**Mayor Peletidis:** Thank you for having me. This exhibition is a significant endeavor for the Municipality of Patras. It serves to honor the heroic struggles of our people throughout history, particularly moments like the liberation from Nazi occupation and the Polytechnic Uprising of 1973. The artwork, especially Vaso Katraki’s engraving, symbolizes the enduring spirit and resilience of our citizens. We hope to connect these historical events with our current generation, encouraging them to learn from the past to shape a better future.
**Interviewer:** That’s a powerful message. How do you envision engaging the younger generation through this exhibition?
**Mayor Peletidis:** Our goal is to invite thousands of parents and students to participate. We want this November to be a month of knowledge and collective discussion. By presenting these struggles, we aim to inspire dialogue and reflection on our shared history. We believe that when young people learn about these pivotal moments, they become more engaged and aware citizens.
**Interviewer:** The exhibition also ties in with various events throughout the month. Could you share some highlights?
**Mayor Peletidis:** Absolutely! Among the events planned, we will screen a film about the Polytechnic Uprising on November 14 and hold a concert featuring music by Mikis Theodorakis on November 15. These cultural activities enrich the learning experience and highlight the artistic expressions connected to our history. We’re also organizing a special event in collaboration with the Pan-Asian Association to discuss the Refugee Block, creating a multifaceted approach to honor our history.
**Interviewer:** It sounds like a comprehensive program. What do you hope visitors will take away from this exhibition?
**Mayor Peletidis:** I hope they’ll leave with a deeper understanding of our history and a sense of pride in our collective achievements. We want people to reflect on the sacrifices made for our freedoms and to recognize their role in continuing that legacy. Our past is not just history; it’s a source of inspiration for our actions today.
