The next story told by Father Castor to his three grandchildren will end less well than usual. This friendly rodent which made its comeback in Belgium at the beginning of the 90s actually has more enemies than it seems.
The latest proof of this disenchantment is the decision of the DNF to allow the municipality of Couvin to eliminate two beavers.
What did the two creatures do to deserve such a fate? Did they dare to attack a Walibi attraction? Not this time. What the two beavers are accused of is having built a dam near a road that is regularly flooded. Obviously, a solution had to be found to avoid drama. But usually, when a beaver causes inconvenience, we gently encourage it to go see if the nearby rivers aren’t greener and we don’t talk about it anymore. This solution makes it possible to satisfy local residents and keep the animal alive.

But this time, the DNF considered that there was no other way than slaughter. It is as regrettable as it is difficult to believe and above all, this measure risks having no effect in the long term because a new pair of beavers will quickly conquer the space left empty by their predecessors.
