Despite some good references from Parrot, DJI has established itself as the benchmark for drone General public. And it is clear that the Chinese manufacturer multiplies the good performance. Among its products are the Mavic Air 2, a drone designed to appeal to the general public thanks to its good performance in flight and its excellent image quality. The brand delivers a versatile device that will suit even beginners, and if you have to pay more than 1,000 euros, today it falls to less than 840 euros.

Instead of a price crossed out at 1,049 euros, DJI’s Mavic Air 2 is now displayed at 839 euros on Amazon, or 210 euros of immediate discount. The drone is sold with an array of accessories, from extra batteries to spare propellers.
A versatile and solid drone
Released in 2020, the DJI Mavic Air 2 is one of the best drones available on the market. It has all the features you would expect from a drone. The latter is certainly not as small as the DJI Air 2s, but it retains a compact format and its foldable design. With a weight of 570 g, it is below the threshold of 800 grams from which a declaration and training are required by European legislation. But a little online training won’t hurt to be able to fly safely and without a hitch.
Moreover, it will be necessary to remain vigilant particularly for the lateral movements of the automatic flight modes. Indeed, the Mavic Air 2 still does not detect obstacles on the sides and above it. However, it detects them forwards, backwards and below, which is a major advantage especially for beginners. The manufacturer has also reinforced the robust appearance of its model: its propellers, its hull and its plastic nacelle are capable of withstanding a fall of around ten meters following a collision with a tree.
Good performance in flight
This drone is capable of filming in 4K HDR at 30 frames per second, or without HDR at 60 IPS. To add a slow motion effect to your footage, you can crank the drone up to 240 IPS in Full HD. The video feedback can be provided by your smartphone, which will be fixed above the remote control. Everything will be controllable from the DJI Fly app. To fly this device, beginners can start with the “Tripod” mode which limits the speed to 18 km/h in forward gear. The movements will thus be softer and the movements smoother. The more experienced can activate the sport mode, which will allow you to reach a speed of 68 km/h. Multiple automatic flight modes will also be included.
On the photo side, the Mavic Air 2 has a 48 megapixel Sony IMX586 sensor. Result: the pictures are of very good quality. During your flights, you will be able to count on a 40 Wh battery, with an autonomy of 34 minutes. This will depend on the flight conditions, rather count on 25 minutes of effective flight time. Full charging will take 90 mins in total. The remote control incorporates two 2600 mAh batteries, which will avoid draining your smartphone’s charge too quickly.
