The “distraught” father… Details about the operation performed by the son of “Abu Wadih”

The Sultan of Tarab, the artist George Wassouf, bade farewell to his young son, Wadih Wassouf (39 years old), in a mass funeral attended by official, political and artistic personalities, as well as cultural and media figures from all Lebanese regions.

George Wassouf accepted condolences throughout Saturday at St. Nicholas Church in Ashrafieh, east of Beirut.

The artist, Wassouf, appeared for the first time following announcing the death of his son Wadih, at dawn on Saturday, sad and tired.

With great sadness, the artistic community bid farewell to Wadih Wassouf, expressing their regret for his loss, sympathizing with his father, who was tired and adhered to the word (Praise be to God).

The journalist, Nishan Der Haroutyunian, a close friend of the deceased Wadih Wassouf, said: “Wadih was extremely affectionate.”

In an interview with “Sky News Arabia” in an article by journalist Ikram Saab, Nishan said: “My friend Wadih decided to undergo sleeve gastrectomy three months ago, and he returned to Lebanon during the holidays, coming from Doha, where he was staying to manage his business, and he performed the surgery at the end of the month.” last December.”

Nishan revealed, “The cause of death was very severe bleeding,” and he told “Sky News,” that “Wadih entered the hospital on December 27, regarding two weeks ago, and underwent surgery on the same day, but complications occurred two days ago.”

He added, “My friend Wadih is 39 years old, and he was a permanent friend of his father, the artist George Wassouf, when traveling and at home.”

Nishan described the situation of the artist, George Wassouf, as very sad, denying that “he had been transferred to the hospital on Friday evening, as was reported in some media.”

Nishan Derharoutyunian said: “What eases the horror of the tragedy is that” Abu Wadih” kept repeating his praise to God throughout the day despite the burning heart and the intense sadness that controls him, and he expressed this sadness by weeping and with tears.”

In a call made by “Sky News Arabia” with the Mar Youssef Hospital administration, which remained silent, its sources expressed the deep sadness that hangs over the hospital due to the death of the young man, and contented themselves with saying: “It was a sad day that is not like the rest of the days.”

According to our sources, the hospital kept silent out of respect for the family of the deceased, Al Wassouf.

In another context, medical sources concerned with surgery told Sky News Arabia, “The sleeve gastrectomy, or what is known as stomach reduction, is one of the most popular operations for weight loss.”

In this process, the surgeon usually resorts to cutting the stomach, as it removes regarding 80 percent of it, and instead of the stomach being like a storehouse, it becomes like a passage for transporting food.

The surgery takes an hour and a half on average, and it may sometimes reach two and a half hours in complex and thorny cases.

As with every surgical procedure, stomach reduction carries some rare complications, most notably:

Bleeding: The risk is from the moment of surgery up to two weeks.

Blood clots: The risk is from the moment of surgery until the third week, then the risk decreases with each passing day following the operation.

The news of the death of Wadih Wassouf, the son of the Sultan of Tarab, George Wassouf, raised a great uproar and shock, and raised many questions regarding the dangers of this surgery and the complications that might result from it, following Wadih’s death brought this surgery back to the fore once more.

It is noteworthy that “Wadih is the eldest son of the Syrian artist from his first wife, Shalimar, with whom he had a civil marriage in the French capital, Paris, following her family refused this connection.”

Wadih previously shared a photo a week ago in which his father, George, celebrated his birthday via Instagram, commenting, “Happy birthday to my father, my brother, my best friend. I love you.”
