An international team led by the University of California has discovered a free floating “dark” black hole 6,260 light-years from the center of the Milky Way, by observing the brightness of the distant star, using a 1.3-meter telescope in Chile operated by the University of Warsaw, and “micro-lens” observations. in astrophysics led by scientists from «NASA».
The scientists said: “The mass of the star’s body ranges between 1.6 and 4.4 times the mass of the sun.”
The scientists added: “This is the first floating black hole or neutron star detected by microgravitational lenses, and we can examine and weigh these isolated, compact objects. And we opened a new window on these dark things, which cannot be seen any other way.”
“Determining how many of these objects inhabit the Milky Way will help astronomers understand the evolution of stars in particular, how our galaxy dies and develops, and may reveal whether any of the invisible black holes are primordial black holes,” they said.
In the study, the team concluded that the probable number of black holes in the galaxy is 200 million.
