The disappearance of school books from libraries raises concerns among many families before the start of the new school year

Many parents and guardians of students are racing against time to purchase school books, but when they go to the libraries, they encounter a shortage of some books.

Just a few days after Moroccan children returned to school in primary, secondary and preparatory education institutions, many families were unable to provide certain books for their school-aged children.

In turn, the booksellers did not deny that they did not have the relevant books, as they confirmed that many school books were not sufficiently available in libraries, pointing out that parents who were late in purchasing books for their children could not find some titles after the stock of booksellers in their residential areas ran out.

They stressed that the issue is mainly related to the books approved in the modern edition, and therefore they place the responsibility on the publishers, claiming the delay in printing, especially since only a few days separate us from the start of the new school year.

In response to the issue, Nourredine Akouri, President of the National Federation of Parents’ and Guardians’ Associations, revealed that “the supply of books during this period is small compared to the demand, and the small quantities of the first edition that were distributed to libraries sold out quickly.”

Akouri explained that “some of the school books that were adopted in the new edition this year top the list of books not available in libraries, specifically the mathematics book for the fourth and sixth grades of primary school, and the Arabic language book for the first year of middle school.”

The head of the Federation of Parents and Guardians of Students Association stressed that “this problem has become recurring on an annual basis, which calls into question the publishers’ provision of school books in a timely manner, and the distribution of the printed shares equally among the various libraries to avoid their monopolization by a certain party.”
