The dirham appreciates against the euro and the dollar from March 10 to 16

Rabat – The dirham appreciated by 0.74% against the euro and by 1.10% against the US dollar, during the period from March 10 to 16, 2022, according to Bank Al-Maghrib ( BAM).

During this period, no auction operation was carried out on the foreign exchange market, indicates the Central Bank in its last weekly bulletin.

As of March 11, 2022, official reserve assets stood at 335.7 billion dirhams (MMDH), down 0.5% week-on-week and up 9.2% year-on-year .

During this week, BAM injected an amount of 34.5 billion dirhams in the form of 7-day advances on call for tenders, notes the same source.

Taking into account injections of 21.5 billion dirhams through repurchase agreements and 20.6 billion dirhams as part of the support program for the financing of VSMEs, the overall outstanding balance of Bank Al-Maghrib’s interventions thus comes to 76 .5 billion dirhams.

On the interbank market, the average daily trading volume stood at 4.8 billion dirhams and the interbank rate stood at 1.50% on average during this period.

On the stock market, the MASI depreciated by 0.8%, bringing its poor performance since the start of the year to 4.5%.

This weekly evolution mainly reflects the declines in the indices of the building and construction materials sectors by 4.1%, the distributors by 3.5% and the food industry by 1.9%.

On the other hand, those of the real estate and real estate investment companies sectors appreciated by 6.2% and 4.1% respectively.

As for the overall volume of trade, it stood at 452.1 million dirhams (MDH) against 791.3 MDH a week earlier.

On the central equity market, the average daily volume reached 88.6 MDH after 153.5 MDH.
