In Cameroon, following the assassination of our Cameroonian colleague Martinez Zongo and the comments of the newspaper Calame on this drama, its director, Xavier Messe, is summoned this Monday morning to the SED, the Secretary of State for Defence) of Yaoundé. The judicial authorities want to hear him in order to obtain clarifications on remarks made on a private radio.

The lawyer of Xavier Messe, the director of the newspaper the penMaître Jean-Pierre Mayim, of the Yaoundé Bar in Cameroon, was joined by Paulina Zidi, of the Africa editorial staff.

« He would have made statements in a private radio, in the context of this case. He would have declared that maybe he was informed, that someone called him, saying to him: “isn’t Mr. Martinez already dead? asking him to go and verify this information, and I believe that’s what he tried to do. So he went to the private radio I’m talking regarding, to say that in his intuition, he thinks Martinez is no longer alive.

That’s what it’s regarding. So it is a question of going to make these clarifications in front of the commander of the center legion.

We are calm, we have no fears, it is a clarification that we would like to make, because, you see, he is making a statement, but people interpret it differently. He will say exactly what his state of mind was and what happened. So he has nothing to reproach himself for in this case.”
