Morocco is in full digital transformation, the opportunities in the sector are enormous and the will of the various actors to support this digital dynamism has never been so strong. Players such as Huawei and Orange have been leading their own revolutions for many years and mobilizing enormous technological and financial resources. Here is how these two IT and telecom operators mark digital in Morocco today.
In a few years, Huwaei has been able to position itself on the Moroccan market as a provider of Cloud solutions serving the financial sector. Today, the company aims to play a key role in digital transformation and mark its mark in the 4.0 revolution. ” It is our ambition to bring digital to citizens, organizations and government, in order to build a connected and intelligent world. “, told Maroc Diplomatique Chakib Achour, Marketing and Strategy Director of Huawei Technologies in Morocco, during the Digital Transformation Forum held this Tuesday, June 7, 2022 in Casablanca.
Placed under the theme “Companies and the Digital Transition? Good Practices & New Opportunities for Success”, this meeting was an opportunity to bring together all the players in an ecosystem for which the opportunities and challenges are constantly evolving. Companies of different sizes and from different sectors of activity have thus come together to give them the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the latest innovations and digital practices, and thus enable them to make a successful digital transition.
Having made the bet to contribute to the digitalization of Morocco, Huawei Technologies is deploying to multiply digital solutions in different fields. These can now be used in industry, agriculture and even health thanks to telemedicine. Technological solutions that can only be beneficial to the development dynamics of the country and the continent, according to Achour. ” So today we are participating in the evolution of Morocco and we are participating in the evolution of Africa by democratizing technology », Underlines Chakib Achour.
Huawei’s bet is therefore clear: put IT innovation at the service of economic and social development and ” support Morocco in its vision of digital transformation “. To meet this challenge, and position Morocco as a digital platform in the region, a “ effective implementation of a digital infrastructure, but also sharing best practices in terms of governance ».
Investment, the locomotive of digitalization
Innovation, of course, but also and above all infrastructure. At a time when Morocco has been able to provide an Internet access rate of 62% and 4G coverage reaching 98% of the population, investment in the development of digital infrastructure must remain a priority. “ All actions must be around the encouragement of investment and aim to ensure that our investments are optimal “says Fayssal Soulaymani, Director of Marketing & B2B Sales Support at Orange Morocco.
The operator has been carrying out major investment efforts for twenty years, including the very recent investment agreement worth 5.6 billion dirhams signed with the government, and which mainly targets the development of digital infrastructure and deployment of High and Very High Speed Mobile and Fixed Internet. Investments that Orange does not intend to decelerate, moreover, assures Soulaymani: ” At Orange Morocco, we have always invested a very large part of our income. Overall, the telecoms industry is a very investment-intensive industry, and so we have to support that. We must develop these efforts and intensify them in the coming years. ».
To precisely support these efforts, the adaptation of the legal framework is essential, also recalls Soulaymani. ” If today there is something to defend, it is that a private operator is putting massive amounts of money into infrastructure development, and therefore legislation must be an element that will help us in this approach and who will motivate us to invest even more money “, he concludes.
