The so-called “devil’s comet” will be visible to the naked eye, which is returning to Earth’s orbit following almost 70 years.
As it has become known, the phenomenon will take place on March 30 and 31, when Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks will be visible.
The comet will reach its closest point to the Sun on April 21, before disappearing back into the solar system, where it will begin its new orbit.
It is also commonly known as a “cryovolcanic comet”, meaning it consists of an icy shell filled with gas.
It is noted that on March 31, 12P/Pons–Brooks will be just 0.5 degrees from the bright star called Hamal.’
The Devil’s Comet was first recorded in 1812 by Jean-Louis Pons, but observations were not accurate enough to predict when or where it would return until it was rediscovered in 1883 by William Brooks.
