The DPP’s Pingtung county magistrate’s primary election was fierce. Legislator Zhuang Ruixiong alluded to his rival Zhou Chunmi’s collusion with the local KMT factions to “dance with the devil” and lead Qing troops to enter the border. The audio recordings of the record prove that Zhou Dian-lun said that he supported Zhou Chunmi “for his own sake.” On the other hand, the Kuomintang, from the central to the local party offices, has been silent on the party speaker’s support for the DPP’s candidate to be the county mayor, which is surprising.
Zhou Dian Lun said in the released recording file, “I want to report to you that this is not only the legislator Zhou Chunmi who wants to be the county magistrate! It is also for the success of the next speaker of Dian Lun. On behalf of the Democratic Progressive Party, I dare to say loudly that no one is interested in this speaker, only me, so I have to help for myself.” As for Zhou Chunmi’s camp, he pointed out that Zhuang Ruixiong will support her People in Pingtung County referred to them as the devil, and Zhuang Ruixiong emphasized that the devil referred to the Kuomintang rather than his own family.
However, 6 DPP members from Pingtung County, plus 22 village chiefs, etc., continued to hold a press conference on their seats, and publicly called for Zhuang Ruixiong to apologize, thinking that Zhuang Ruixiong regarded them as devils. Zhuang Ruixiong also fought back. Why should the local KMT forces intervene in the DPP’s primary election? Who led the Qing troops into the customs? That person is the one who must apologize.
So far, only former legislator Su Qingquan of the Kuomintang has expressed his stance on running for Pingtung County Mayor. Liao Wanru, chairman of the Kuomintang Pingtung County Party Department, was dissatisfied with Zhuang Ruixiong’s claim that Zhou Chunmi colluded with the local KMT faction to “dance with the devil.” The Kuomintang has no faction in Pingtung. The DPP has a faction. The DPP does not need to involve the Kuomintang in its family affairs. The Kuomintang has its own county magistrate candidate. Party members will be restrained from interfering in the “household affairs” of other political parties.
