The Polish government has given its decision in principle to the public company Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe (PEJ) for the construction of the first Polish nuclear power plant in the region of Pomerania, in the north of the country.

Why is this important?

A major nuclear renaissance has begun in Europe. Several countries have launched a “nuclear alliance” with the aim of promoting new projects. Poland, one of the participants, however, does not currently have an operational reactor. But Warsaw has ambitious plans to change this situation in the coming decades.
