Riot Games, creator of the notorious Valorant and League of Legends games, has just bought one of the studios owned by Wargaming, the developer of the free games World of Tanks, World of Warships and World of Warplanes.
One of the regional branches of Wargaming Sydney will now be called Riot Sydney and will become “a global hub for the development of Valorant and League of Legends, as well as new projects, prototype game features, add-ons and console ports.”
This division became known, among other things, thanks to the development of the BigWorld Technology engine, which provided the studio with a place in the Guinness Book of Records because of the day when there were over 250 thousand people on the server at the same time. Wargaming reserves the rights to the engine.
The entire development staff from the former studio will join Riot, although the amount of the deal is still unknown. Recall that last week it became known regarding the renaming of Wargaming games in the Russian Federation. Since the Russian studio Lesta Games now owns these products, the World of Tanks game was called “World of Tanks”.
Similar names were given to World of Warships and World of Tanks: Blitz, which are now called “World of Ships” and “Tanks Blitz”, respectively. All progress of old players will be saved.
