The trend in high-end smartphone screens seems to be moving towards less and less curved panels. The Pixel 8 is expected with a flatter design, the Galaxy S23 Ultra is less rounded than its predecessor… and the Galaxy S24 Ultra might go even further on this path.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected around February, March 2024. And according to the leaker Ice Universegenerally very knowledgeable when talking regarding Samsung, its design, might change slightly.

Bigger borders

The leaker published two visuals. The first is taken from a prototype Galaxy Z Fold 5 shown by Samsung last month at its research and development center. According to Ice Universe, the Galaxy S24 Ultra might come close to this prototype. It might look like he shows in the second visual.

If you don’t see the difference, it’s normal, it’s very thin, but still there. The Galaxy S24 Ultra would opt, according to him, for a design with a flat screen. This is what gives this impression of huge borders.

More specifically, in a other X (formerly tweet), the leaker communicates the size of the borders according to its sources: 3 mm for the chin and the forehead and 3.42 mm on the sides. That would represent a body-to-screen ratio of 88%, the lowest since the Galaxy S10.

The frenzy of edge-to-edge screens therefore seems to have dried up. Many comments do not understand why Samsung is making smartphones with larger and larger borders. In any case, it is a questionable choice. While some people don’t support edge-to-edge screens for the phantom supports they can cause, many premium smartphone enthusiasts expect an increasingly “borderless” screen. At the same time, Apple and its iPhone 14 have demonstrated that it is not a necessary step to sell devices by pallet.

For the rest, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected with relatively similar dimensions, dropping from 162.3 x 79 x 8.6mm to 163.4 x 78.1 x 8.9mm. The screen should measure 6.8 inches diagonally with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. As a reminder, it should also have an Exynos 2400 instead of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
