Certain dramas encourage silence and modesty, contrary to the frightening message they send regarding the moral state of humanity. Friday morning, in the Jewish square of the Marcinelle cemetery, there was neither denunciation nor rebellion. Simply a few men and women confronted with the feeling of paying for who they are, only what they are. They would not have the right to live peacefully because of their membership in the Jewish community. Even their dead might not rest in peace.

During the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, more than 80 Jewish graves were desecrated on the top of rue des Sarts. The Stars of David were torn out of the marble with a crowbar. At this stage, the hypothesis of a theft of metals has not been completely ruled out, even if it seems unlikely. However, there is no doubt regarding the target that the perpetrator(s) of this despicable act wanted to reach.
