End to a story that had its end written. Hernán Darío Bolillo Gómez ceased to be the coach of Junior de Barranquilla, after five months of assuming the position to replace Arturo Reyes, in the absence of official confirmation.
The elimination in the round of 16 of the Colombia Cup against Cúcuta Deportivo was the trigger that was missing from a situation that had been unsustainable due to the bad atmosphere generated against him and the team. Bolillo resigned after the commitment in the Metropolitan.
After having tied against Deportivo Pasto for date 6 of the Colombian League, Bolillo had a meeting with the team’s directives and the return game for the Colombia Cup was the condition for its continuity. Although they supported him after that result, not advancing in the round would mean his end, as it happened.
“The footballers feel that there is no support for the coach. These are things that one has to think about. I am going to talk to the managers, because no one does not know if another man has to arrive who does not have to make decisions like me. Faced with such difficult decisions, they take it with me. I take the equipment here, to put it in, I can’t put it in. The atmosphere is too heavy,” said the man from Antioquia at the time.
After the bad results obtained in the championship, the fans took it against the coach. Playing at home, he received insults and repeatedly asked for his head with chants like “he’s leaving, he’s leaving, Bolillo is leaving.”
Balance and some controversies
Since he took office in March, Bolillo has been in charge of the team for 20 games. He had a good closing of the first semester, with a rebound in the standings that almost allowed him to get into the group of eight and be part of the home runs.
However, so far this semester, they have been in front in 7 games, of which they have lost 3, tied the same amount and won only one, the return against Cúcuta, which was of little use since they ended up eliminated. The performance is 46.6% with 19 goals scored and 19 conceded.
As he himself said, he came to make decisions “that others had not made”, including the departure of Sebastián Viera, the club’s idol, as well as others that caused a stir among the fans. With Juan Fernando Quintero, there would also have been some difference, especially because the player did not feel that he fit into the plans.
