It is not true that Lebanon did not sign an agreement indirectly or through an intermediary with “Israel” or with the “Zionist entity.”

What took place is indirect negotiations between Lebanon and Israel, not between Lebanon and occupied Palestine. The phrase “occupied Palestine” was not mentioned in the American text, which was agreed upon by the Lebanese and Israeli sides.

Accordingly, the two parties are supposed to respect these maritime borders, and neither of them can veto this agreement on the pretext that it does not recognize the other. Is this agreement an interim agreement? That is, does the Lebanese state, for example, plan to abide by it for a certain period and then veto it on the pretext that it does not recognize Israel and that the time to liberate Palestine has come?

What happened is an actual agreement, even if some wanted to deflect their view of this fact, and of course it does not rise to the level of normalization, but it imposes calm and stability along the maritime borders, extending along the wild Blue Line to the Shebaa Farms and the occupied Kfarshouba hills, where calm there was like no other time ago.

This agreement allows Lebanon to exploit oil and gas wealth, and the authority in Lebanon had repeatedly complained that it was forbidden to exploit these resources and that the Americans were behind this until the conditions of the Russian-Ukrainian war came and the need for gas intensified, so the United States and Europe moved to find alternatives and found some of it in the basin The Americans pressed for an agreement between Lebanon and Israel and succeeded. The effects of this American move extended towards a Cypriot-Israeli agreement regarding the Aphrodite field, and reached the Gaza Marine field off the coast of the Gaza Strip, which was discovered in 2001 and was not exploited.

One of the effects of this agreement, if the state makes good use of it, is that it will lead to economic and financial prosperity in Lebanon, but this matter remains linked to an internal agreement that may be more difficult than the agreement that took place indirectly with Israel, an agreement to build a state that will not be plundered or abused.

Yes, as MP Ghassan Atallah said, “Michel Aoun did it.” And during his reign, it was agreed to demarcate the maritime borders between Lebanon and Israel, but in the era of others, the first well will be drilled, in which commercial quantities of gas will be discovered. Congratulations from those around him.
