A post by the Syrian actress Mirna Shalfon sparked wide reactions among her fans, who confirmed that it came in response to her compatriot, the artist, Sulaf Fawakherji, following the latter defended the Lebanese media, Nidal Al-Ahmadiyya.
Shalfoun documented a video clip from the controversial Ahmadiyya TV interview, in which she said, “Syrians do not know chocolate, and we taught them Bonjour and Good Morning.”
And the Syrian artist attached a comment on the video, in which she said: “I am sorry, group, that I put you here… just as a reminder, because unfortunately some people started defending themselves. Listen to the last video to know what I said regarding the great people of Syria. Hear and see the extent of malice and degradation.”
Many observers focused on the phrase, “Unfortunately, the defense began to work from some,” to point out that Mirna Shalfoun meant by her words the position of Sulaf Fawakherji, who published in the past hours a long message defending the struggle of Ahmadiyya.
Fawakherji’s defense of Al-Ahmadiyya came following the latter was subjected to widespread attack due to its statements, which were described as racist once morest Syrian refugees.
In her post, Sulaf blamed her countryman, the “Syrian refugee,” for his behavior, claiming that the Ahmadiyya’s statements and actions came as a response to the behavior of the Syrian refugee.
She added, “I believe in this incident that the afflicted Syrian guest was the initiator, and that Mrs. Nidal felt an insult to her in the heart of her home and country, and she might not control her reaction.”
Sulaf asked the Syrian refugees to behave politely in the countries of asylum, adding: “The dear Syrian is the son of my country, who was forced by life’s circumstances to leave his country and live abroad. My heart is with you wherever you are, but I must remind you of the popular proverb that says (oh stranger, be polite).”
At the end of her post, “Fawakherji” confirmed that Al-Ahmadiyya loves the Syrian people and gave her home in the mountain to her Syrian acquaintances without charge, at a time when real estate owners of Syrian nationality were raising rents mercilessly.
The struggle of Ahmadiyya and Chocolamo
Al-Ahmadiyya had accused the Syrian refugees in Lebanon of living for walks, “Al-Kazdara” and receiving free electricity and water.
She claimed that she once asked for “chocolamo” from a Syrian employee in a restaurant in Lebanon, but he did not know what a chocolamo was; What aroused the astonishment of the Ahmadis, who responded to him by the absence of an Arabic synonym to explain to him the meaning of the word.
The Lebanese media also claimed that “the Syrian refugee did not know what was required of him, because he refuses to learn the Lebanese dialect that contains the aforementioned synonym, because for him Lebanon is a province belonging to Syria.”
