Crisis at the Kiel. The Mannekes have now also had to lose at home to relegation competitor STVV with heavy 0-3 figures. So for the time being, Beerschot remains with many nice words, but no results.

In what was seen by some as the match of truth for Dirk Kuyt, the Mannekes started the game eagerly. The agile Verlinden with a nice dribble and a good cross, but Colassin nodded the ball firmly wide.
A start to build on, or so you would think. Unfortunately for Beerschot, their small winger suddenly grabbed his hamstring not much later. Verlinden himself also immediately requested a substitution. Keita was his replacement and thus ended up in the front much earlier than planned. Krüger therefore moved to the left and had to shape Verlinden’s role in a different way. In any case: new headaches for the troubled mauve-white and probably no derby for Verlinden on Sunday. Wait and see.
Afterwards, things went from bad to worse for Kuyt’s troops. After a corner kick from Brahimi, the ball ended up with Patris who hit the post. Taniguchi’s rebound was the winner. And so the home team was already 0-1 behind before the quarter.

STVV remained the most dangerous team afterwards and proved that with a few chances. A half bicycle kick by Godeau, with an accompanying cat reflex by Beerschot goalkeeper Shinton, was perhaps the best chance to double the Limburg lead. What could Beerschot do in return? Very little. A header chance by Soh was actually the only thing to note. Although Beerschot did grow as the first half progressed without really claiming an equalizer.
Fresh forces, no improvement
Time for something different, Kuyt thought. Wright-Phillips and Weymans came in to replace summer signings Krüger and Plat after the break. It didn’t change the dynamics of the spectacle immediately. A long-range shot from Henderson went well over the goal, but for the rest we were mainly watching a particularly mediocre and sedate game of football.
