The fateful hour is approaching. On April 11, the 2024 declaration campaign will begin for income for the year 2023. Like every year, corrections and new features appear on the tax website. New scale, frozen mileage costs, address… Europe 1 takes a look at what’s changing for this 2024 edition.
Revaluation of tax brackets
As in 2023, the government announced an increase in tax brackets of 4.8%, to deal with inflation which has hit French households hard. Thus, the tax threshold for a single person will be from 11,295 euros, compared to 10,777 euros last year. For households that have only seen their income increase slightly, or earn the same as last year, this new scale will allow them to pay less tax. But this measure will have a blow for the public authorities: six billion euros in shortfall, according to the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire.
A declaration in two clicks on the application
Another new feature is the ability to make your declaration with just a few finger movements. The impots.gouv mobile application now allows French people who wish to do so to make their declaration from their smartphones. Be careful however, only the simplest declarations can be made via your mobile.
The process will be carried out in four stages, indicates the tax authorities: situation, income, expenses and summary. Certain income and certain expenses can be modified from the application, but for more complex operations, it will still be necessary to go through your computer.
The mileage fee scale does not change
Bad news for taxpayers who declare their real costs. After two years of increases, the State chose this year to freeze the scale of mileage fees, indicates the MoneyVox website. A choice which therefore makes the actual costs option a little less competitive compared to the traditional flat rate reduction of 10%. You will have to take out the calculator once more to find out which system will be the most interesting.
Address changes scrutinized
Finally, the declaration for the year 2024 will be more focused on changes of address. Therefore, at the end of the online declaration, you will now have to complete a new questionnaire called “Summary”. Objective: to ensure that housing owners properly declare changes in occupancy of their real estate.
At the same time, parents of students attached to their tax household will also be asked to report any change of address. Therefore, if their child lives outside the family home, they must provide the address.
More generally, each taxpayer will have to declare whether or not they have moved during the year 2023. A step which is now essential to continue making their declaration.
