Today’s menu had a teleconference between the members of ESAKE since there was a scheduled General Assembly in which several things were discussed and decisions were made for the new season.
In the next championship there will not be a third round as it happened this year, but there will certainly be a new system of conduct.
There has still not been a final agreement on the exact format and it is something they will come to in the near future.
The most likely scenario sees regular play offs between the top eight teams in the standings and six extra matches for places 9-12 with home and away fixtures to decide which team will be relegated.
In fact, there is a serious possibility that the teams will have 6+2 foreigners at their disposal. That is, to choose 6 in each match among 8 options. This will be maintained until the last match of the finals. For example, last year Olympiacos cut Wright and then Fall was injured. This changes and in a similar case it can be replaced.
Olympiacos and Panathinaikos, as well as some other teams, are qualifying for the specific solution which will be decided in the next period.
Also, an All Star Game will not be held as happened last year in Karditsa. Of course, last year’s celebration also had a charitable character to offer money to the residents of the area who were affected by the floods.
Both of these decisions have to do with the limited dates since this year there are two FIBA ”windows” for Eurobasket 2025, November and February. Therefore, not so many matches fit.
This year there was a 30% increase in tickets for the games of the Greek League, which of course has to do mainly thanks to the two big teams who, especially in the finals, filled their stadiums. Commerciality automatically increased, but mainly television interest.
ERT remains the favorite to host the Greek league and the 2024-25 season, but it will not be playing “ball” alone since at least one subscription platform has expressed interest in providing… a roof.
Finally, the Super Cup will be hosted for the third consecutive year in Rhodes with the most likely date being the last weekend of September.
