The decision to abolish 28 departments of the federal government

As part of efforts to improve the efficiency of Pakistan’s state machinery and reduce administrative costs Federal Government 28 out of five ministries departments Decided to end.

In a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office on Friday, it was said that this decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad.

In the meeting, the recommendations of a reform committee formed by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif were presented.

The meeting was briefed on reforms in five ministries including Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan Affairs, State and Border Affairs (SAFRAN), Information Technology and Telecommunication, Industry and Production and National Health Services.

In the meeting, a proposal was made to merge the Ministry of Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan into states and border areas.

The Reforms Committee had recommended that 28 institutions under these five ministries be either completely closed, Privatize should be done or transferred to the provinces.

The recommendations of the committee also included the proposal to strengthen 12 institutions in these five ministries.

The reform committee proposed to eliminate around 150,000 vacancies and to outsource non-core jobs such as cleaning and janitorial services, which would lead to gradual elimination of various posts in grades one to 16. .

The committee also recommended a complete ban on recruitment to emergency posts and supervision of the finance ministry over the cash balance of the ministries.

The Prime Minister directed that the proposal be submitted to the Federal Cabinet for approval and a comprehensive plan for its implementation should be prepared and submitted.

He said that the aim of the government’s institutional reforms is to reduce the burden on the national exchequer and improve the services provided to the public.

He further said that the state institutions which have not shown sufficient performance in terms of public service and are a burden on the national exchequer, should either be closed immediately or steps should be taken to privatize them immediately.

The Prime Minister said that he will personally oversee the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority, which aims to encourage entrepreneurship in the sector. He also directed to bring the authority under the Prime Minister’s Office.
