With the resumption of judicial activity as of Monday, the debate investigating criminal responsibility for the entry of a suitcase with almost 800,000 dollars in the hands of Guido Antonini Wilson enters the definition stage.

Next Wednesday, two days before the 16th anniversary of the scandalous event, the Oral Criminal and Economic Court number 1 will resume the debate and its progress towards the arguments stage is subject to the disposition of two Venezuelans whose testimonies are key.

They are Jorge Pérez Mancebo and Ruth Behrends Ramírez, two former officials of the state oil company PDVSA, whom the prosecutor Marcelo Agüero Vera pointed out in various ways for lightening their statements and who, according to what was stated by the Public Ministry of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela “He mightn’t find them.”

Pérez Mancebo, then director of PDVSA in Argentina, received a call from Antonini Wilson in the early morning of August 4, 2007 following the seizure of the suitcase with dollars at the Metropolitan Airport. During the investigation of the case, the former director denied having been contacted by the Venezuelan businessman, beyond the fact that the cell phone where he received the call and that he had assigned at that time was in his name, which was corroborated by an employee of the oil subsidiary.

On the other hand, the testimony of Ruth Behrends Ramírez, one of the passengers on the flight hired by Enarsa that arrived with Antonini Wilson, Diego Uzcátegui, former number 2 of PDVSA, his son Daniel; Claudio Uberti, former owner of Occovi, his secretary Victoria Bereziuk and two other people.

Behrends Ramírez testified four years following the episode. In his statement, he stated that it was at the direction of his superior that he boarded the aircraft, since there was no room on other flights to Argentina given the large delegation that was traveling to attend the presidential summit between Néstor Kirchner and Hugo Chavez. In this sense and under oath to tell the truth, he assured that he did not spend many hours in the country and continued to Uruguay.

Both are expected to give testimony next Wednesday, at which time the Criminal and Economic Oral Court number 1 resumes the debate. If both statements are materialized, the judges would have to incorporate other written statements, including that of Senator Oscar Parrilli, who, according to former chamberlain Guillermo Ledesma, told him in a phone call that De Vido had invited the suitcase to Government House two days following the scandal.

With this, the judges will be in a position to close the testimonial stage and move on to the arguments. For this, the court proposed to the parties a schedule where the first to expose will be the prosecutor Marcelo Agüero Vera, make his accusation official and if he considers it so, request convictions and / or acquittals; then the defenses of Claudio Uberti, Julio De Vido and Ricardo Echegaray will continue, who will have a day for this purpose and will close the round with the lawyers of García, Lucangeli, Lamastra and Gallini.

The file whose trial began on March 8 had an instruction that lasted 14 years, was in the hands of various magistrates and still has Uzcategui father and son, in addition to Antonini Wilson, as fugitives. The latter, following an agreement with the US Justice where he remained as a protected witness, admitted that the money he was carrying in his suitcase was to finance the presidential campaign of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and that 4.2 million dollars disembarked on that flight.
