Palestinian issued a statement this Thursday arguing his vote for the sixth foreigner in the First Division for 2024, an explanation that found a iron response of the Professional Footballers’ Union (Sifup).

In the letter, signed by the president of the colony club Jorge Uauyit is mentioned that “over many years, I have advocated on the Council for the inclusion of footballers who have contributed to the development of Chilean footballwhether following several seasons in the country or complying with the nationalization requirements, even before officially obtaining nationalization, this was the objective of my initial intervention.”

“The reality of leagues like the Ecuadorian one, which allows up to 8 foreignersand its outstanding performance at the level of adult and youth teams, far above Chile, shows that a greater number of foreign players does not necessarily harm national performance, but it can enhance the competitiveness of the league,” he adds.

And it’s more. In addition to reaffirming the commitment as a training club, the tetracolor institution points out that “70% of leagues in South American countries already allow 6 foreigners or more. Furthermore, by competing in international cups under these regulations, our teams face fewer disadvantages compared to other countries that have a greater number of foreigners.”

In closing, Uauy pointed out that the union chaired by Gamadiel García “should not interfere in the internal affairs of the ANFP, a private corporation.”

Sifup’s response

The Sifup quickly picked up the glove. He did not take long to attach Palestino’s statement to the networks and deliver a brief but firm answer.

“To avoid fake news‼️ 1. They never invited us to talk regarding this measure,” the union that groups professional soccer players in Chile began by saying.

Later, the union clarified that “2. Our First Division has 24.6% foreignersbeing the country that more has in South America” and “3. To date, only Ecuador and Brazil allow 6 or more foreigners on the field, very far from 70%”.
