Mexican authorities reported that the number of deaths from Hurricane John, which made landfall on Monday night as a Category 3 hurricane in the Costa Chica region of Guerreroin southern Mexico, has risen to five.

A 37-year-old woman and her 10-year-old son died after a landslide that buried their house in the Santiago Apóstol neighborhood of the municipality of Tlacoachistlahuaca, which occurred on Tuesday morning.

The third fatality is the indigenous Rufina López, of the Me’phaa ethnic group, whose wall collapsed in the community of Paraje Montero, in the municipality of Malinaltepec, in the Guerrero Mountain, where the inhabitants recovered the body and They were taken to the police station.

The fourth victim is a 52-year-old man named Juan Santana Garzón, who died Tuesday morning in his home, where he was cleaning because his home was flooded. Unfortunately, he fell and hit his head.

A 28-year-old person died when a wall of his home collapsed in the community of Ocotitlán, municipality of Tecoanapa. The town commissioner confirmed the death and requested help to recover the body and bury it.

Although the State Attorney General’s Office has not officially confirmed this latest death, the municipal Civil Protection authorities have already been notified.

A 68-year-old woman, Juana Pantaleón, was injured when a tree fell on her home in the town of Ocotito, municipality of Chilpancingo, Guerrero. She was taken to a hospital to receive medical attention.

In total, there are 301 flooded homes, of which 300 are in the municipality of San Nicolás and one in Acapulco. In addition, 150 collapsed houses have been recorded in the same municipality and 250 without roofs.

Five landslides or landslides have been recorded on the roads, of which three are in Acapulco, one in José de Joaquín Herrera and one in Tlacoapa, in addition to two sinkholes, one in Marquelia and another in Copala.

337 tree falls have been recorded, mainly in the municipalities of the Costa Chica, in addition to 14 cut-off communities and four sunken boats in Acapulco.
