The death toll from student protests in Bangladesh has risen to 50

The number of people killed during student protests in Bangladesh rose to 50 on Friday.

As reported by Ukrinform, this is reported with reference to AFP Barron`s.

“We have five bodies here. People were killed today,” said Bacchu Mia from Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Before that, 45 other deaths were recorded during the student protests that began on Tuesday.

Also reported of at least 104 police officers and 30 journalists injured during clashes at protests in Bangladesh.

Local television company Independent Television reported that 702 people were injured during clashes between protesting students and the police on Thursday. Clashes took place in 26 of the country’s 64 districts, the article says.

As reported by Ukrinform, all public and private educational institutions in Bangladesh have been closed indefinitely since July 17 due to student protests against the quota system for public positions.

The protests are sparked by student discontent over public sector job quotas, which include 30% quotas for family members of fighters in Pakistan’s 1971 war of independence.
