Baghdad: Zidane Al-Rubaie
The Iraqi Artists Syndicate, on Tuesday, mourned the death of Iraqi theater director Sobhi Khazali at the age of 78 following a long struggle with an incurable disease.
The union said in a statement: “It is with great sadness that the Iraqi Artists Syndicate mourns the artist Sobhi Al-Khazali, who passed away. We ask God Almighty to cover him with his vast mercy and to inspire his family, lovers and colleagues patience and solace. We belong to God and to Him we shall return.”
The “Theatre House” in the General Union of Writers and Authors in Iraq also mourned him.
The “Mahmoud Abu Abbas Theater Group and the Children’s Theater Arts Association also paid tribute to him.”
It is noteworthy that the deceased was born in 1945 in the city of “Qalat Saleh” in Maysan Governorate, southern Iraq. He held a doctorate in directing, worked in teaching, directing, and theater, and received many awards, shields, and certificates of appreciation.
He directed and wrote more than 25 theatrical works. He also directed four television series, in addition to assuming the task of directing some television programs. In addition, the deceased was a teacher at the Institute of Fine Arts in the capital, Baghdad. He also headed the theatrical division of the Iraqi Artists Syndicate. He also held the position of president of the “Native Theatrical Groups” Association in Iraq.
