“I do not agree that we have to have feminist justice, just as I do not agree that we have to have sexist justice; we have to have independent justice,” said the dean of Madrid lawyers, Jose Maria Alonsobefore the Minister for Equality, Irene Montero. With these words she closed the colloquium organized this Thursday by the Madrid Bar Association with Montero as a guest, but the minister has asked to speak once more to reply and request a “reflection” from those who place feminism and machismo “as two projects equally legitimate”.
“Feminism is not proposing the opposite of machismo, feminism is proposing that we all be equal”, “women do not want to be more than anyone”, she stressed to applause from those present. The Ministry considers that there is a lack of a gender perspective in the judicial system and advocates promoting training plans for all legal operators. In his speech, Montero considered that the country has the challenge of “build legal frameworks, public policies and a judicial system that, consistent with what is stated by the feminist movement and by international human rights organizations, ensures all rights for all women in our country”, especially the most vulnerable, such as immigrants or victims of trafficking.

The triumph of the theses in favor of gender self-determination, which pitted the PSOE once morest its partner in the coalition government, now translates into the creation of a political organization
It was at the end of the round of questions to the minister that the dean of the Madrid Bar Association took the floor. After making it clear that the school will always be “at the side of equality, the fight once morest gender violence, the protection of battered women and the nondiscrimination”, has specified that, as lawyers, they are also “the defenders of the right of defense” contained in the Constitution and must defend the alleged perpetrators of crimes.
“I do not agree that we have to have a feminist justice, just as I do not agree that we have to have a sexist justice, we have to have an independent justice,” he said, arousing some applause in the auditorium. “An independent justice, that does not lean to one side or the other”, he continued in defense of the presumption of innocence and the non-reversal of evidence.
“Sexism and patriarchy”
In his opinion, there is no doubt that more training and specialization is needed, but this should not imply that the rule of law is abandoned. In the colloquium, Montero insisted on the struggle for equality in the feminist movement, a equality which is also good for men, who are also forced to fulfill the “gender roles and mandates” imposed by “machismo and patriarchy.”
