The days of imprisoned “worker” V. Gapšis in the Seimas are numbered

LAT accepted the cassation appeals of the convicts on Wednesday, however rejected requests to suspend the execution of the sentence.

15min reminds that the Lithuanian Court of Appeal found the entire trio guilty of corruption crimes two weeks ago and sentenced them to actual prison sentences.

R. Kurlianskis was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment, E. Masiulis – six and a half years, V. Gapšys – five and a half years.

Speaker of the Seimas Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen 15min on Wednesday, he repeated that if V. Gapšys remains in prison, decisions will be made regarding his mandate.

The speaker of the Seimas entrusted the supervision of the issue of V. Gapšis’s mandate to an experienced conservative, her deputy Jurgius Razma.

He15min said that V. Gapšys still has time until Monday to ask the Central Election Commission (CEC) to have his mandate revoked.

“One day, the next, we will wait to see if he himself will not write a statement to the CEC. If that statement is not yet available on Monday, then I will register the draft resolution on the date of impeachment on Monday, because the chairperson has entrusted me with that issue, and we should adopt that resolution at Tuesday’s meeting”, – 15min said J.Razma.

“This means that the impeachment procedure will be able to take place in 21 days,” he added.

CEC press representative Indrė Ramanavičienė informed 15minthat the commission had not yet received such a request on Wednesday evening.

“We don’t have anything yet,” said the representative of the CEC.
