(Istanbul = Yonhap News) Correspondent Seong-heum Cho = Another bombardment of the Zaporiza nuclear power plant in Ukraine caused a temporary power outage, Russian state-run Sputnik news agency reported on the 6th (local time).

The Russian-appointed administration of the city of Enerhodar said the incident occurred after a Ukrainian bombardment damaged power lines around the nuclear power plant, according to reports.

He added that the water supply was disrupted due to the interruption of the electricity supply.

The city administration said seven shells hit the building at the nuclear power plant complex.

Earlier this morning and the night before, Ukrainian drones also attacked the Zaporiza nuclear power plant and the city of Enerhodar, the city administration said.

A city official said on local TV that “unmanned aerial vehicles flew across the river from Ukraine and bombed nuclear power plants and city infrastructure from night to morning.”

Russia’s defense ministry said in a daily briefing that in the past 24 hours, Ukraine has fired 20 rounds of shells at the Zaporiza nuclear power plant and the city of Enerhodar.

It was announced that three bombs had landed in the nuclear power plant area, and one of them exploded near Reactor Unit 2.

However, the level of radiation at the site remains normal, the Russian Ministry of Defense said.

At the Zaporiza nuclear power plant, Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, concerns about radioactive material leaks have risen due to a series of shelling incidents amid the fighting between Russia and Ukraine.

The two remaining inspectors are delivering to the IAEA the on-site situation they learned while residing at the nuclear power plant.

Nevertheless, the bombardment and military activities surrounding the Japorija nuclear power plant continue.

The previous day, Ukraine’s state-owned nuclear power company Energoatom said that the last of its six reactors was shut off from the grid due to a fire caused by shelling.
