The plastic of The Day Before, Fntastic’s survival MMO leaves no one indifferent. The most “wishlisted” game on Steam will still be desired since the title will go under the Unreal Engine 5 engine and therefore see its release shifted to 1is mars 2023.
Originally scheduled for June 21, 2022, the game immerses you in a bruised America, ravaged by a pandemic (well, then…). In this world, you will have to face bloodthirsty infected and survivors ready to do anything to seize various resources. The open-world MMO wants to offer rich gameplay combining combat phases, harvesting, crafting and many others.
Even if the decision to go under the Unreal Engine 5 engine may seem surprising one month before the release of the title, it is a consequence of the wish that the studio has for its title:
The transition to a more advanced, open-worlds engine will make The Day Before gameplay even more fantastic.
Many studios have already chosen to use the Epic Games engine for titles like Hellblade II. CD Projekt has also already announced a partnership with Epic Games for the next The Witcher game. The Polish studio brings its expertise to the specificities of the open world, something that can only be beneficial, especially for The Day Before. The performance of Fortnite’s dad engine is attracting interest.
FNTASTIC has therefore made a well-considered choice and relies instead on the sustainability of the game in the years to come, which is essential for an MMO. The studio therefore prefers to bet on an engine that can live up to the ambitions of their project and might make their desires come true. Indeed, The Day Before sees things on a very large scale with a “gigantic” open world as well as several places such as urban cities, underground passages or even the countryside.
Even if for some, the Russian studio is too ambitious and the disappointment is necessarily present, many agree that it is a useful and necessary postponement.
