Dr. Gad Al-Qadi, head of the National Institute for Astronomical and Geophysical Research, revealed the date of the start of the new Hijri year 1444 AH, as the first of the month of Muharram 1444 AH will be astronomical on Saturday, July 30, 2022.

The head of the National Institute for Astronomical Research continued: It is noted that the new crescent will not be born yet at sunset on the day of sighting in the city of Cairo, as well as in the vast majority of Arab and Islamic capitals and cities.

He added: It is also noted that there is a period of time for the crescent to remain above the horizon following sunset on that day (the day of sighting) in some Arab and Islamic countries, although the pairing occurs in them following the sunset of that day, where the crescent sets following sunset of that day, and the period of stay is not considered. This is for pairing to occur following sunset that day.

Thus, Friday, July 29, 2022 AD, will complete the month of Dhu al-Hijjah 1443 AH, and the first of Muharram 1444 AH will be astronomical on Saturday, July 30, 2022 AD.​
