Developer Red Hook Games has warned that the popular Darkest Dungeon 2 roguelike, now in Early Access, will receive a major update that will completely rework the progression system and reset some player characteristics.
The Altar of Hope update will add a new type of reward, Candles of Hope, which you can earn and then spend on various attributes that make future missions safer for a group of adventurers.
As you would expect in such a game, the greater the danger, the greater the reward in the form of candles, however, in case of death, you will see that a serious penalty is imposed on your supply. The justification for the risk lies in the fact that you have access to a cache of candles in the hotel, which you can not touch at all. Reaching the end point of the game, the Mountains, will ensure that you take all the candles on your next journey.
The update is already available in the experimental branch of the game, and in a couple of weeks it will be available to everyone. Players should take into account that the release of this big patch will reset the current hope score, including unlocked items and hero availability. However, character backstories that grant access to new skills will remain.
Altar of Hope will also add a new ally, the Bounty Hunter, and fix a lot of annoying bugs. All players will be given 20 candles so that they do not worry too much regarding resetting achievements.
Darkest Dungeon 2 has been in Early Access for a year now, but the full release is scheduled for February 2023. However, you need to read that the first year the game will be exclusive to the Epic Games Store.
