In the case of the Israeli, it was known that he made a date with a beautiful woman through an application. In the midst of flirting, the soldier agreed to meet her when he arrived in Medellín. While in the city of eternal spring, the foreigner told his virtual lover to meet, to which she agreed.

While he believed that he was going to spend a pleasant moment with the woman he had met through the Internet, she, on the contrary, knew that the soldier would be another victim of this dark organization made up of university and upper-middle class young people.

The foreigner was picked up by the woman, who told him that she had a trusted driver who transported her everywhere because Medellín was unsafe. The soldier did not distrust the version that the conquest of him gave him.

According to the Police, all members of the network were sent to prison. | Photo: Police

The woman picked up the soldier in the El Poblado neighborhood in her trusted vehicle. What the man did not know was that that car was being escorted by another car carrying those who would later put him through the worst nightmare of his life.

After getting into the vehicle and meeting the woman, the three, the driver, the foreigner and the woman, began the journey. A few blocks after starting the journey, the other vehicle appeared, from which three subjects got out and got into the car. where the foreigner went.

Until that moment everything seemed to be an isolated case, until the Police investigators learned that months before a similar event had occurred in Medellín, but in this case the victim, a North American citizen, had died.

For the month of February 2023, the crime of Swedish citizen Kyle Alexander Mackenzie, 34 years old, had occurred in Medellín. When investigating the case, the investigators who took over the Israeli case found that Mackenzie had also met a woman online, had met her and then had been the victim of a millionaire ride.

The modality was the same, mercilessly beating their victims to make them hand over the keys to the cards, for which they used traumatic pistols, with which they caused injuries to the foreigners when they refused to hand over the money and banking information.

In the case of the Swede, the network, in addition to kidnapping him, had sent a message to one of his friends in the United States telling him that they had kidnapped him and that they had to pay them 2,000 grand, possibly referring to dollars.

Upon learning what had happened, the investigators, after obtaining information about where the Swede was staying, reviewed the security cameras in the area and observed that the subject left a building in the Provenza neighborhood, took a red vehicle ( with false plates), which traveled through Sabaneta and Bello Antioquia.

Since they did not give him the money and the friend did not deposit the 2,000 grand either, the criminals, after having beaten him to death, left him lying in the Belén Alta Vista sector, on the Tres Cruces hill, the foreigner was badly injured. He was taken to an area hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.

The criminals, as demonstrated in the investigation, used traumatic weapons to cause wounds to the victims and then stabbed them at those points with screwdrivers and other pointed elements to make them hand over the banking information.

With two cases under the same modality, the investigators knew that it was a criminal organization so they decided to deepen the investigation. The investigation gave the police several cell phone numbers, which were compared with the case of the Israeli soldier, generating a match in one of the telephone subscribers, that is, the same number coincided with both cases.

As in the case of the Israeli soldier, three people had been captured, the job was now to establish whose number coincided in the two robberies of foreigners. In parallel, the Prosecutor’s Office had ordered that a biological test be carried out on the car that had been immobilized in the case of the Israeli soldier, finding nine traces of different blood.

With these clues and the facial recognition that the Israeli made of his attackers, one of the captors decided to collaborate with the authorities and opened the Pandora’s box of crime. The informant told investigators how the gang was formed and what their modus operandi was.

The snitch also told the police that the members of this network were economically well-off young people, as they say, mommy and daddy’s sons. They studied at renowned universities, and in careers such as law and business administration.

The brains of the network recruited women from low-income sectors, some of them minors, to serve as hooks with foreigners and they would open profiles with their photos on dating applications. As one of the members of the network was a DJ, according to the investigation, he took advantage of electronic parties to recruit young people, men and women for million-dollar rides to foreigners.

SEMANA learned of an audio where in an encrypted message they talk about a kidnapping. “We have the man in charge of the event (millionaire walk) we have it in a farm in Copacabana. We bought 13 million pesos in technology (…) I am currently with a card in my pocket that has like 70 sticks to spend. (…) I went to buy gold, but they asked me for the man’s ID and the rut and I don’t know what,” says the conversation between members of the criminal gang.

With more specific information, the investigators managed to obtain another interception where one of the members of the network says, “those stupid faggots, how are they going to let themselves fall like that.” Within the file to which SEMANA had access, the informer revealed to the authorities that the modus operandi was to use pretty and underage women to seduce foreigners; Then they picked them up in a vehicle which was escorted by another where those who beat the victims and then left them lying in pastures went.

The authorities’ new informant gave them the names of four of the main members of the network. In the middle of the investigation, the Police Gaula who led the case found that these subjects used 16 cars for millionaire rides and had electronic dataphones.

With the consolidated information, the evidence within the process, and the testimony of the informant and some of the victims, the Police Gaula asked the Prosecutor’s Office to issue arrest warrants to arrest those accused of the terrible crime that had occurred. whipped to Medellín.

In the end, the authorities captured 14 people between the ages of 16 and 30, including a Colombian American, who will have to answer for the crimes of homicide, kidnapping, conspiracy to commit a crime, theft, instrumentalization of minors, which could give sentences of more than 40 years in prison.

Colonel Giovanny Cristancho, director of the Police Gaula, said that the criminals “obtained illicit income from the kidnapping in one year worth approximately one billion pesos. They used firearms and knives to attack the victims and subdue them, forcing them to hand over their belongings, bank account passwords and cards to make withdrawals, transfers and purchases.”
