The Dangers of New Synthetic Chemicals: Research Shows Links to Breast Cancer Risk

As new synthetic chemicals are created, the risks increase

New synthetic chemicals are constantly being developed on the market, which are used in everyday life, cosmetics, food, and packaging. Scientists have found a quick way to determine whether a particular chemical can cause breast cancer.

Research leader Dr Jennifer Kay, a research fellow at the Silent Spring Institute, says the research is groundbreaking.

Scientists, studying certain chemicals, looked for substances that might activate the estrogen receptor – the same one that is present in breast cells. They also looked for substances that might force these cells to produce more estrogen or progesterone – it is in this situation that the risk of breast cancer becomes critical.

We found 921 potentially dangerous substances. 90% of them are found in consumer goods, foods and drinks, pesticides, and medicines.
Thus, hair dyes, dirty city air, and household chemicals were considered dangerous.
