All of them are ranked according to seven criteria: speed of weight loss, long-term weight loss, degree of protection once morest diabetes, protection once morest heart and vascular diseases, ease of compliance, completeness of the composition and safety for health. By all these criteria, the gluten-free diet was the worst method of losing weight. According to ophthalmologist Mikhail Konovalov, compliance with it can lead to a deficiency of coarse fiber, vitamins B, C and D, potassium, iron and magnesium.

Immunologist Andrei Prodeus emphasized that a gluten-free diet is difficult to follow, since some products may contain hidden gluten. In addition, returning to a normal diet will negate all efforts to lose weight, as the weight will return to its previous level. In turn, cardiologist Herman Gandelman noted that a gluten-free diet increases the risk of developing colon cancer, anemia and osteoporosis. Vitamin B12 deficiency also harms the nervous system. Thus, a gluten-free diet can only be followed under certain medical indications. In particular, it is recommended for patients suffering from celiac disease – gluten intolerance.

“The gluten-free diet is recognized as the worst diet in the world, leading to a deficiency of essential vitamins and minerals, and also increasing the risks of a number of serious diseases,” concluded Malysheva.
