The World Health Organization now considers aspartame a possible human carcinogen. The WHO specifies that the consumption of this fake sugar remains without risk, within a certain limit.

It’s in diet sodas, or sugar-free candies. It’s aspartame, an artificial sweetener marketed from the 1980s.”I try to avoid as much as possiblebut it happens to me to crack”, admits a resident. Aspartame has just been placed as a possible carcinogen by the World Health Organization. The WHO calls for the greatest vigilance with regard to children. “Children can be at high risk because consuming early in life habituates you”says Dr. Francesco Branca, director of the health nutrition department at the WHO.

Do not exceed 2.8 grams of sweetener per day

However, it has not decided to lower the maximum recommended threshold, which is already very high. For a person weighing 70 kilos, the recommendation is not to exceed 2.8 grams of sweetener per day, the equivalent of ten cans.

Manufacturers deny any harmfulness of aspartame. “When used as part of a balanced diet, it offers consumers the opportunity to reduce their sugar intake,” specifies the international association of sweeteners. However, a French study, conducted on 100,000 adults since 2009, shows a common link with cancer.
