“The Danger of Terrorism Still Persists”

Eric Snoeck stated on Premiere that the threat of terrorism hasn’t disappeared and has evolved in an unstable geopolitical world. The Belgian police and security services still prevent attacks occasionally, according to him. The federal police has recently reoriented some staff following difficult years for the anti-terrorism services. The aim is to maintain a minimum capacity for these missions and cooperate better with civilian and military security services.

“The terrorist threat has not disappeared,” said Eric Snoeck, at the microphone of the Premiere. “It undoubtedly evolved in an unstable geopolitical world”.

Attacks are still “punctually” foiled in Belgium by the police and security services,” he added.

After very trying years for the anti-terrorism services within the federal police, a reorientation of part of the staff has been carried out, said Mr. Snoeck.

The objective, however, is to maintain a “minimum capacity” for these missions, and to ensure better cooperation with the other security services, both civilian and military, he concluded.
