The Dacia Spring has been named the greenest car of the past year by Green NCAP. In the end, it was the high energy efficiency of the lightweight vehicle that tipped the scales over other five-star candidates such as the Tesla 3 or the Renault Mégane E-Tech.

Although the testers exceeded the specified standard consumption value of 13.9 kilowatt hours per 100 kilometers with 18.5 kWh, the small Stromer still beat all other electric cars. The reward: 9.8 out of ten possible points in this discipline. In addition, there are ten each for greenhouse gases and the emission of other air pollutants. The bottom line is a total of 9.9 points.

Green NCAP started the new year with three combustion engines on the test bench. There were a good three stars for the Opel/Vauxhall Mokka with 1.5-liter diesel and the Kia Picanto; no other vehicle with a petrol or diesel engine achieved more last year. The BMW 2 Series Active Tourer was awarded two and a half stars, the VW Touran two.

The Opel achieved an overall result of 5.8 points, with the testers exceeding the WLTP average consumption by 0.4 liters, but also registering partial consumption of an “impressive” 4.0 liters. The Kia Picanto 1.0 achieved an average of 5.1 points. The bottom line was 4.9 points for the BMW 220i Active Tourer with 48-volt hybrid system, and the Volkswagen Touran 1.5 TSI received an average mark of 3.8. (awm)
