The Czech Republic and Austria opposed the distribution of Ukrainian refugees between European countries

Prague and Vienna oppose the distribution of refugees from Ukraine between EU member states, TASS reports.

This statement was made by First Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister of the Czech Republic Vit Rakusan and Austrian Interior Minister Gerhard Karner following the talks held in Prague.

Rakusan assured that during the upcoming presidency of the Czech Republic in the European Union (from July 1 to December 31, 2022) there will be no discussion on the introduction of quotas for the distribution of refugees from Ukraine in the community countries. He said that the priorities for this time will be to improve the security of the EU’s borders and respond to the situation in Ukraine.

Karner, on the other hand, said that the topic of the distribution of Ukrainian refugees is not relevant: they can move freely throughout the EU.
