The Cybercrime Bureau summons journalists Rabih Farran and Rehab Daher, following a complaint from Nadine Njeim
Lebanese actress Nadine Nassib Njeim filed a lawsuit once morest fellow journalists Rabih Farran and Rehab Daher, before the Cybercrime Bureau.
Farran confirmed to The New Arab that he will not appear before the Cybercrime Bureau, nor will he attend the investigation session on Tuesday, stressing: “I will only accept to appear before the Publications Court, and not before any security apparatus.”
The lawsuit came following a post written by Fran, in which he criticized the great technical weakness of Najim’s series “Salon Zahra”, which was shown on the “Shahid” platform.
Fran and Daher’s announcement of their summons led to a wave of journalistic solidarity on social media in Lebanon, especially since summoning journalists to appear before security services is illegal, given that the only body authorized to investigate the journalist is the Publications Court.
Article 29 of the Lebanese Publications Law stipulates that if a lawsuit once morest a journalist requires an investigation, the investigating judge must do so.
And at the beginning of this month, the Lebanese feminist activist, Hayat Mershad, also refused to appear today, Thursday, before the Cybercrime Office, in the lawsuit filed once morest her by the theatrical director accused of harassment, Joe Kodeih. Mirshad stressed that this summons is “illegal”, because “the journalist appears before the Publications Court, not before a security apparatus.”
