The trees in part of the wooded area will have to be felled in order to create two sports fields.
This is made necessary by the passage of the tramway, which will circulate on the current soccer fields.
The Center de services scolaire des Découvreurs (CSSD) and the City of Quebec recently reached an agreement to start the work.
The objective is to ensure that there will be no disruption of services for the students of the school.
Wednesday morning, machinery was on site. Fences had also been installed to secure the area. Already, several trees had been cut down.

For the group Les Amis des Arbres de Québec, this situation is unacceptable.
“We are amazed to see that Quebec City, in the context of global warming, has not seized the opportunity to offer citizens living in this neighborhood an island of freshness for the benefit of their well-being. , by choosing to keep the Rochebelle wooded area in its entirety”, they write in a plea sent to the media.
They deplore the possible addition of concrete and synthetic turf, which create heat islands. They denounce the “ransacking of this place of biodiversity”.
For their part, the City and the CSSD assured in a recent press briefing that the number of replanted trees will be greater. Of the 0.51 hectares of wooded area, 0.49 are preserved, mentioned the general manager, Christian Pleau. “We’re going to double what we’re going to knock down.”
For the redevelopment of the Rochebelle campus in total, out of 267 trees, 88 will be cut down, 179 will be protected and 356 will be replanted, had informed the City of Quebec.
