“The cruel truth is that Carlos went to a mobilization and did not return”

At the end of the arguments of the plaintiffs Ricardo Mendaña and Marcelo Medrano, who requested the declaration of responsibility of the 8 Neuquén police chiefs charged in the Fuentealba II case, spoke Carlos’s partner, Sandra Rodríguez, who claimed justice on behalf of the teacher’s daughters and “of all and all teachers”.

Addressing the court made up of Luis Giorgetti, Raúl Aufranc and Diego Chavarría Ruiz, he recalled that on April 4, 2007, he stayed at home to care for the girls while Carlos participated in the demonstration. “We were tired of the lack of dialogue, of the non-definition of the salary conflict”. But “he planned to return to work on Monday.”

He remembered, with a cracked but firm voice, the times he spoke on the phone with his partner. On one occasion he was taking refuge from the repression at the Arroyito service station, and the last time he told her: “Stay calm Sandra, we are already on the route returning to Neuquén”. those were his last words in my ears».

“This was how in an instant the life of a loved one was taken from us and Carlos’s dreams were cut short,” he continued.

Sandra Rodríguez said that a “titanic struggle” began there that lasted 16 years, during which “40 judicial officials denied us effective judicial protection”.

“The common citizen Jorge Sobisch said I am the political person in charge»he remembered.

«It was not enough for us that the material author be sentenced. (Poblete) did not act alone, he belonged to an organic force. He was not an isolated case, a madman. The police can’t act like a hordecannot intervene at any cost, causing irreparable damage.

“Why were they persecuted?”

“I wonder why they persecuted them, why they encouraged irrational violence. Carlos and the rest were withdrawing»he added.

“Why didn’t they stop? Isn’t that excessive action, that excess and Carlos’ own murder an abuse of authority? I am a teacher, not a lawyer. Here we speak of an illegitimate or legitimate order, but the terrible and cruel truth is that Carlos went to a mobilization and never returned.
