Kuwait’s Crown Prince Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah announced the dissolution of the 2020 National Assembly.

The assembly was reinstated as a constitutional solution by a Constitutional Court ruling in March. Article 107 of the Constitution was invoked for this restoration.

This was stated by the Crown Prince of Kuwait on behalf of the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, on the occasion of the last decade of Ramadan.

The Crown Prince of Kuwait said in the speech that based on the responsibility entrusted to us, we follow the actions of state institutions with interest and we accept guidance and advice and provide guidance.

However, these days it hurts us that the citizens are suffering. The political scenario has a sense of anxiety and there is no change in it.

He further said that we need to refer to the constitution to get rid of the effects of the current political scenario. There is a need to reach out to the people and realize their aspirations.

We have chosen to protect the dignity of the state by strengthening governance by the will of the people. It has decided not to violate the constitution.

He explained that in order to set all the above and keeping in mind the Constitution and respecting the will of the people, we have decided to dissolve the 2020 National Assembly which was restored by the order of the Constitutional Court which was a was based on a constitutional solution.

We are also calling for general elections in the coming months. It should be noted that in March, the Constitutional Court declared the 2022 National Assembly elections null and void and restored the elected parliament in 2020.
