Game News The creators of Battlefield unveil The Finals, a free FPS with destructible environments
If you’re tired of the Battlefield saga, especially following the recent disappointment that is Battlefield 2042, Embark Studios, a studio formed by former DICE staff, has the solution: it’s called The Finals.
The Finals, un mix entre Overwatch et Battlefield
The notoriety of the Battlefield saga has been declining year following year since the success of Battlefield 4 and its sequel Battlefield 1it must be said that neither Battlefield Vis Battlefield 2042, failed to convince the players. It is also with a view to winning back fans of the first hour of the Battlefield saga that Embark Studios, a house formed by former DICE, is launching The Finals.
Unveiled at Gamescom, this new project by Patrick Söderlund is an FPS that is greatly inspired by the film Running Man featuring on screen a policeman played by Arnold Schwarzenegger who despite himself participates in a macabre reality show. That’s not all, The Finals also takes a lot from its mentor Battlefield, since, like him, it offers large-scale multiplayer matches and fully destructible settings.
We want to create a game that gives players the tools to interact, change, and use their world in meaningful ways. It is therefore a shooting game, where it is important to aim and shoot. But it’s also a game where players can use the environment, and adapt to changes in the environment. Gustav Tilleby, Creative Director of Embark Studios
To prove it to us, Embark Studios unveils a brand new trailer where we can see several buildings collapsing and entire sections of walls shattered.
We also learn that the title will borrow a lot from Overwatch since it will also offer several types of characters with distinct roles. Except that this time, it’s up to the player to customize his avatar to fill a particular role.
You can be nimble, much like a ninja, soaring across rooftops and shooting down enemies with a katana, or you can be a tank, with a rocket launcher. It’s up to you. Gustav Tilleby
A free experience soon to be playable!
The good news is that this new experience will be free-to-play, this means that everyone will be able to try the experience without paying a penny. Of course, Battle Pass will be there, they will offer players to leave with many cosmetics to customize their weapons and characters.
If The Finals interests you, note that the title will be the subject of a closed alpha from Thursday, September 29, or in less than two days. The event will span a total of four days and will close on Monday, October 3.
To hope to participate in this closed alpha, just go to Steam and register. Hurry, as places are limited.
For the moment, The Finals does not have a release date, but we can still expect the launch of a beta on a larger scale in the weeks or months to come. Everything is expected on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
