The creator of “Buffy”, a fallen icon of feminism

Joss Whedon has long been adored for his series and films featuring strong women, as in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Before being questioned by several actors and his ex-wife, who accuses him of being a hypocritical misogynist. The American director and screenwriter has agreed to speak to the New York Magazine.

“Interview with the Vampire (alleged)”, title the New York Magazine. “Joss Whedon, the fallen star of Hollywood feminism, tries to justify himself”, writes the fortnightly as a subtitle.

For many fans of buffy the vampire slayer, the creator of the series has been the subject of a cult following. In 2002, during a symposium devoted to him in England, a university professor declared that Joss Whedon was “the founder of a new faith”, recalls the magazine.

By making a blonde high school girl with a corny first name a heroine endowed with superpowers, he had reversed Hollywood codes. He often attributed his feminism to his mother, who had co-founded an association to promote women’s rights.
