The Covid is back in force in the Jura

The kiss, the handshake and the hugs may have made their return for several months in our daily lives, the coronavirus is still there. And it has also made a comeback in recent days.

Situation not reassuring

In one week, 116 new positive cases were recorded in the Jura. A figure which becomes eloquent when compared to the number of contaminations recorded since the lifting of restrictions at the end of March: 344. It is thus a quarter of the positive cases of the last two months which emerged between June 6 and 13. . “The situation is not at all reassuring, confirms Sophie Chevrey-Schaller, deputy head of the Jura Health Service. Since last weekend (note: that of June 4 to 5), we feel that there has had a turnaround. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg, she says, because people have gotten out of the habit of getting tested.”

When the Covid passes for a sunstroke

There would therefore be many more Covid patients at the moment in the Jura than the official statistics would like to say. This is why many are reluctant, or do not think, to take the test when they have a fever, cough or other cold symptoms. They put it down to sunstroke or temperature variations during the day. “Many children are also sick at the moment, but the parents do not have the reflex to test them”, continues the one who is also responsible for the special cantonal Covid cell, put on standby. Those who come to the cantonal screening center, which is still active in the Innodel area, are mainly people who have learned that someone they know has tested positive. How many people are actually infected today? “We are in the process of collecting data from wastewater analyzes to get an idea of the circulation of the virus”, indicates Sophie Chevrey-Schaller.

Since the Confederation finances these analyses, carried out three times a week in the Jura, it is the Confederation that is responsible for collecting and validating the data. And if the results of the largest treatment plants in the country are published, this is not the case for those of the Jura.

Only one person at the H-JU because of the Covid

This Monday, 25 new people were officially declared positive for Covid-19 in the Jura. Four people were hospitalized, including one in intensive care. The communication manager of the Jura Hospital, Olivier Guerdat, nevertheless reports that the person admitted to intensive care was admitted because of another pathology and that of the three other patients of the HJU positive for Covid, only one , nonagenarian, is truly hospitalized because of this. It still seems to be the Omicron variant circulating in the Jura, but its successors, B-A4 and B-A5, are in the process of supplanting it. The number of cases concerning them is increasing in Switzerland, so with it that of hospitalizations, but the symptoms are not more important, notes the assistant to the public health service. According to Olivier Guerdat, there are in any case for the moment no alarming signs as to an increase in hospitalizations at the H-JU linked to Covid.

The watchful canton

At the dawn of the summer holidays and with the resumption of major demonstrations, cantonal officials are much less serene than a few weeks ago. They stand ready to readjust the activities of the screening center and the tracing cell as needed. The Minister of Health Jacques Gerber recalled it at the end of last week, the virus is still there, even more present than it was at the same period in 2020 and 2021, he specified. The positivity rate among people who go to get tested is also much higher. The canton must remain attentive.
