On Friday, the FPS Public Health took stock of the various epidemics present on Belgian territory.
Regarding the Covid-19, the news is reassuring. According to the latest data published by Sciensano, the epidemic rebound observed at the dawn of summer seems to be a thing of the past. Between August 9 and August 15, 1,706 new coronavirus contaminations were detected on average per day, a drop of 32% compared to the previous week. The number of new daily hospitalizations also continued to decline (-12%). A total of 1,183 Covid-19 positive people are currently hospitalized, 88 of whom are being treated in intensive care.

Conversely, monkey pox is gradually gaining ground. As of August 15, a total of 624 cases had been confirmed in Belgium, including 336 in Flanders (54%), 223 in Brussels (36%) and 65 in Wallonia (10%). All but three of the cases affect men between the ages of 16 and 71.
Twenty-nine people have already been hospitalized with the disease, but no deaths have been reported.
Current data shows that the virus is mainly transmitted during sexual intercourse.
From Monday 22 August, a free information line (02/214.19.29) will be open in Brussels to answer questions and centralize requests related to the disease.
