The Court of Cassation upholds a 3-year prison sentence for the former Mokattam investigation assistant in the Afroto murder case

The Court of Cassation upheld the 3-year prison sentence issued by the Cairo Criminal Court to the former Mokattam investigation assistant, in the case known in the media for the killing of Afrouto, in 2018.

The Cairo Criminal Court had sentenced the assistant detectives to 3 years in prison and 6 months to the police secretary, on charges of beating Mohamed Abdel-Hakim, known as “Afroto” to death in the custody of the Mokattam police station.

The South Cairo Accidents Prosecution, in South Cairo, had referred the Mokattam Police Department’s assistant detective and a police officer, who were imprisoned, to the urgent criminal trial, and the Public Prosecution charged them with beating that led to death and unlawfully detaining a person.

The Public Prosecution’s decision came after receiving a forensic report on the incident, which revealed a fracture of the victim’s left rib, “Afroto,” which resulted in a laceration of the spleen and severe abdominal bleeding.
