Each year, the Court of Auditors publishes the list of functions and professions remunerated and exercised during the previous year by our representatives. This publication examines the role and mission of public officials and senior civil servants in federal, regional, provincial and local public services and bodies, as well as those who perform their duties in the seats of the European Parliament.
This list was also published by the Belgian Official Gazette and can be viewed here
“The directors of intermunicipal companies, companies or non-profit organizations over which the public authority exercises a dominant influence as well as the directors of private legal persons appointed by the public authority must also declare their mandates to the Court of Auditors if these mandates of administrators are remunerated”, specifies the federal organization.
This audit of the professional life of our elected officials and our senior civil servants shows a certain evolution in terms of transparency. In 2021, practically all public officers filed their list of offices and declaration of assets with the Court of Auditors relating to the offices held in 2020. In 2021, 53 officers did not file their list of offices ( compared to 55 in 2020 for 2019 mandates) and 7 not to declare their assets (compared to 45 in 2020).
The representatives in default of declaration come from all the provinces and from Brussels. Some provinces such as Limburg, the province of Luxembourg or even Walloon Brabant have only one agent in violation. The capital has 10 reporting offences. Two representatives living in France also did not declare their mandate.
The Court of Auditors stresses that the punctuality, quality and completeness of declarations are increasing year on year. While in 2020, 678 agents had not yet submitted their lists of mandates and/or their declaration of assets by the legal deadline of October 31, there were only 396 in 2021 (‐41.6% ).
